Mistakes when Building a Website

So, you have decided that you would like to build a website? The good news is that this does not take a lot of money anymore. You do not have to have knowledge related to coding and you do not have to wait for months in order for someone to create a site for you. There are a number of amazing website builders out there that allow you to do this in the comfort of your own home. However, if you are planning to do this on your own, you will want to be sure that you are avoiding these common mistakes that others have made.

One of the largest mistakes is that there is too much information on the home page. When this happens you will find that the visitor is going to be extremely overwhelmed and they will simply leave your site. You should not make your home page look like an open area for ads. It should not be full of links and pictures either. Always try to get to the point and be sure that you have outlined the purpose for the site on the home page. You want the reader to know what your site is about without searching for this information. Less really is more and if you want pictures on your home page then they should be in the form of a gallery so that the reader go look at one at a time.

There are a number of people out there that will simply build their site and then leave it. This is not a good thing either. Maybe you have created your site to simply act as a business card. That is alright. But, you want to be sure that you are updating the copyright date on a regular basis. This will show your visitors that you are still doing business and that all of the information is up to date and accurate.

Never go live with your website without having several people review it first. Yes, you want another pair of eyes to look for spelling mistakes but that is not the only issue. It will be very important to ensure that each and every link is working. You also want a fresh pair of eyes to review your site to guarantee that the site is easy to navigate. When someone reviews your site for you they will be able to tell you what they liked and what they did not like. They can really help you determine if your site is effective and helpful.

Finally, make sure that your visitors are able to get from one location to another in very few clicks. Ensure that all buttons are easy to find that there are navigation bars on each and every page. When your visitors are able to navigate your site with ease they will be more willing to take advantage of what you have to offer.
